Autarky is Wintermoon’s early offering that blends atmospheric and raw black metal, steeped in themes of nature, ancient belief, and isolation. The EP captures the spirit of cold, expansive landscapes and spiritual introspection through aggressive riffs, chilling melodies, and immersive soundscapes.
Musically, the EP leans heavily into influences from classic black metal (especially Immortal and Bathory), employing fast tremolo riffs, blast beats, melodic interludes, and harsh vocals. The production maintains a balance between clarity and rawness — guitars push at the forefront, while vocals sometimes recede into the mix, creating a ghostly, distant presence.
Lyrically, Wintermoon explores subjects such as nature, mythology, spiritual transcendence, and the cold majesty of ice and wind. The inclusion of a cover track — “Wrath from Above” (originally by Immortal) — affirms the band’s roots and homage to their black metal lineage.
